Brief

We were asked by creative agency, Wazzo to work with them on creating a keynote space for Google’s Android Roadshow in London. This space would need to include several areas and appeal to its tech-savvy audience.

What We Did

The Android Roadshow was a relatively small event, but we still wanted it to make a big impact. We designed, fabricated and installed the entire event.

WATCH AND LEARN

Keynote Space

Now here’s where the creativity comes in. After approaching the venue through those uninspring doors you really wouldn’t expect to find a space quite like it. Situated in an old warehouse its industrial location oozes character and natural charm. The stage was beautiful, yet minimal in design. It had sprayed plywood facias with a sprayed trim and gently curved corners. The backdrop to the stage was made using mesh panelling which was fixed onto a metal frame. Painted wooden elements were then attached to the panelling, including that iconic Android head. The panelling created an openness to the room – helping to highlight the wonderfully textured walls within the space. The projection screen with curved edges and raised surround was mounted in front of the unique backdrop, almost appearing as if it was floating. The choice of chairs used within this space were replica Eames DWG chairs, which perfectly refracted the blue lighting used in the room.

KEEP IT IN THE FAIRWAY

Social Space

No keynote is complete without a social space. And no event associated with Google would have your average social space. So of course, we designed and built a crazy golf course. Made up of three separate mini holes with a variety of difficulties – we had ramps, slalom, along with a hairpin bend. The crazy golf course was made with a timber frame and then clad in birch ply. LED lighting was added to the internal edges and areas of its trim painted for it to tie in with other branding within the space. The three mini holes were then placed on real grass and surrounded by living plants. We couldn’t forget about the iconic Android head covered in meadow grass, could we?

TIME IS EVERYTHING

Challenges

The biggest challenge with this job was the late addition of the crazy golf course. It’s okay – we get it. Brilliant ideas might only spring to mind last minute. Thankfully we’re usually ready to pull out whatever is required to make those ideas reality and will always do whatever it takes to create the event our clients dream of – even if that dream is only a matter of days before the event itself!
