When M&C Saatchi asked us to fabricate an EE-branded bull capable of being a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot with the ability to charge mobile phones, we could not wait! The “Charging Bull” was to be installed at Glastonbury Festival and aimed to offer festival-goers a unique and practical way to stay connected.
AN ABSOLUTE ICON
The first step in bringing the Charging Bull to life was the design process. We collaborated with specialist model makers to develop a visually captivating polystyrene bull sculpture. To protect the structure we coated the exterior with weather-resistant polyurea. Finally, it was painted in EE’s signature teal and yellow to enhance their brand visibility at the festival.
TIME TO POWER UP
To provide a reliable and efficient charging experience, we integrated an array of fast-charging ports compatible with various mobile devices into a plinth beneath the bull. This setup ensured everyone could charge their phones safely and quickly, keeping them connected throughout the event.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
Festival-goers appreciated the installation of the bull, as it addressed a common pain point of running out of battery power as well as the ability to stay connected with the free 4G Wifi. The installation also served as a conversation starter, generating positive word-of-mouth, and boosting brand recognition for EE. The idea of a “Charging Bull” in the middle of a field that charges phones is a pretty genius concept if you ask us. The pun on this one was intended!
Additionally, the Charging Bull contributed to Glastonbury Festival’s sustainability initiatives. By providing a centralised charging location, it reduced the need for individual charging devices, minimising energy consumption and promoting eco-conscious behaviours.
WAS IT WORTH IT?
The fabrication and installation of the EE-branded Charging Bull at Glastonbury Festival presented an exciting fusion of art, technology, and practicality. This captivating installation not only fulfilled the essential need for mobile charging but also enriched the festival experience by allowing attendees to capture memories on their phones without the worry of running out of power.
